For the last several weeks, maybe even a couple of months I've been either severely unmotivated to do anything at all, or jumping from task to task, not ever settling on one to actually do.
That's not quite right I did manage some sewing. Not as much as I would like, because I'd head down to my office/sewing space and feel guilty for not having done all that other stuff, so then I'd dither about the other stuff and not sew. But, I did in fact sew a little, and I have some earlier projects I never got around to sharing, so I have projects to share but that decision paralysis is a little bit crippling.
Could you help me out? I'm going to post a few pictures below. Please let me know what you'd like to read about first. I'll tally up the replies and get writing next week. I'm hoping that will help me crack this lack of motivation and decision problem. Your votes, please and thank you!
Rosie thanks you in advance. My restlessness as I wrestle with indecision is interrupting her naps.

Here are five current possible post topics.
1. Quartz Clusters remake |
2. New pattern test quit - Sliding Screens is for small panels or a large scale focus print |
3. Color value woes part 1 |
4. Color value woes part 2 |
5. Christmas cookies - not quilting but, hey, it's cookies :) |
There you have it. Let me know which one intrigues you the most. Even if you also can't decide, please share your strategies to get out of a slump.
Take care and happy quilting,
Joanne
I've been struggling lately, too, with the guilty stuff. It seems when I have a lot to do, I get more done. When I have time to do it, I can't drag myself into the sewing room. Why is that? My vote goes to color value woes. And Rosie. She is always welcome!
ReplyDeleteAny one of these would be great--when I am in a slump, I just take out my string scraps and sew--no plan, just sew strips together two by two and then foursies, etc.-- usually by the time I get to 4-sies an idea has popped into my head--or squares or any other scraps or leftover bits...just some kind of mindless, no pressure sewing does it for me...
ReplyDeleteGood luck --- sending good thoughts your way--we've all been there for sure;)) hugs, Julierose;)))
Oh boy, sorry you are going through that but that happens to me a few times a year. I do whatever sparks an interest - something new or looking at photo's of UFO's and maybe something sparks an interest. I also set a time to do 'sewing' and a time to do the 'other' things running through your head. Just a little bit of time and progress each day tends to help me. Might work for you too..
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see 1,5,3,4,2. Love that first quilt, cookies - can't go wrong with them! I'm intrigued with the color woes 1+2 and then the new pattern test. (I've been known to write each on a slip of paper and pull one out of a hat - I just did that last month and pulled out my lemoyne stars but I really wanted to work on my harmony blocks - so it kinda worked! I got my harmony block hand pieced =))
Cookies are always a good topic. Just sayin'. And the Sliding Screens intrigues me greatly.
ReplyDeleteI vote for sliding screens. Looks like something I would like to try!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...they all sound interesting. ;o)
ReplyDeleteWhen I get in a slump I have a couple of remedies (1) invite a friend over to sew; (2) set a time - must sew for one hour; (3) find a really good audiobook - I can't just sit and listen, have to be working on something otherwise I fall asleep, no matter how good the book is; (4) I post every Monday no matter what, a lot of what I post about got done on Sunday but I'll have something to show on Monday ;o)
Hope one of these helps.
Well Christmas cookies surely has to be at the top?! For me, that's followed closely by your new pattern test quilt.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to know the story behind the Color Value Woes. The Quartz Clusters is very chillingly pretty.
ReplyDeleteCookies or color value problem #2 are my selections. When I’m in a slump, I find just getting on with the task that I’m avoiding the most ( could be cleaning, mending I’ve agreed to do, a looming deadline for work project I haven’t buckled down to get done yet or correspondence I should be doing, etc) gets me back in the grove. Essentially getting the monkey off my back frees my mind and my mojo comes roaring back.
ReplyDeleteQuartz clusters, Rosie & cookies!!
ReplyDeleteI am a huge blue and white quilt fan so I vote for #1.
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in. your color woes part. one!
ReplyDeleteSince I work with panels a lot I would vote for your Sliding Screens. If I am in a slump I go in my sewing room and look around for something that doesn't take a lot of time to finish. That way you get gratification quicker and it just might help spur you into the next project.
ReplyDelete3 Colour Value Woes please. I'm sorry I've not been in contact for so long. Hope you and yours are well.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, you sound so like me at the moment. I'm also having trouble with settling into any sort of routine after all the mayhem of the last few years. I've stilll not quilted my Cascade quilt, one of your patterns. The "two" that intrigue me most are Nos. 2 & 3. Must get my longarm and running & do some sort of goals for next year. Take care and big hugs from down under.
ReplyDeleteSliding Screens looks good, Rosie does too!
ReplyDeleteI like the sliding screens. It looks great for a panel or large print.
ReplyDeleteI'd opt for the Sliding Screens (I'm into production quilts right now), or Quartz Cluster (remake). Love your cookies too - they've given me an idea of how to entertain my grandsons this W/E!
ReplyDeleteSliding Screens intrigues me. Looks like a good quilt to make up quickly, and also a good one to use large prints, or a small center panel. I have some fabrics in mind that might work perfectly.
ReplyDeleteI am in my own slump, possibly because my sewing room is such a mess, and life is crazy busy, so I never get it cleaned. I walk in and choose to read instead of digging out of the mess. :)
